There is a really beautiful pollinating garden visitor called 'cabbage white butterfly', but its' grubs can really feast on your brassica plants. An easy way to distract them is to plant the companion plant 'nasturtium' next to the brassica plot, problem solved!
Nasturtium is another beautifully blooming pollinator-friendly garden companion that we love growing at Confetti Gardens. It's just so easy to grow from seed, Nasturtium are super low-maintenance and its' flowers, leaves and seeds are edible and have a beautifully fiery taste.
It is also known for its medicinal properties and Nasturtium comes in all kinds of colours. We grow a whole rainbow of orange, white, purple, dark red, yellow and pink varieties at Confetti Gardens.
Our heirloom variety tip: 'Phoenix Nasturtium', a heritage variety that can be dated back to the 1900s! Sow out into the garden soil or in pots on the balcony in April, approx. 1cm deep.
Which Nasturtium variety is your favourite that you will grow this year? Let us know!
Happy planting time, everyone!
