How to grow Cornflowers

Grow the beautiful pollinator-friendly and edible cornflower in your kitchen garden or on the balcony.

Cornflowers perform a stunning show in your garden once they are in full bloom - they are just such beautiful pollinator-friendly wildflowers - so if you're not growing them in your garden already, you're seriously missing out. They are super low-maintenance and easy to grow in the garden or on the balcony and come in many gorgeous colours such as blue, pink, white, red and purple.

Cornflowers grow in abundance attract hundreds of bees. Once sown in the garden, they self-seed every year. The flower petals are edible and look stunning when frozen in ice cubes for summer drinks and when sprinkled on cakes, mueslis and smoothies.

Cornflowers like full sunlight. Sow 1 cm deep into a grass and weed-free ground or into pots on the balcony between March and May. They blossom from May until September. Cornflowers help various bee and bumble bee species forage in your garden, and smaller birds - especially goldfinches - like to nibble the flower seeds at the end of the season.
